The Kenyan capital, Nairobi, is a place where ever The Kenyan capital, Nairobi, is a place where everyone collides into a magnificent experience that will take a lifetime to forget. From its vibrant cultural life to its unlikely national park, excellent food joints to breathtaking trails of history – Nairobi is a melting pot of attractions that can draw even the most adventurous of tourists to its bustling heart.
While we were all set to spend #30DaysInAfrica and serve at a Children’s Home in the district of Kikuyu, our journey began from Nairobi. We had 48 hours in the city, before we kickstarted our volunteering endeavor followed by the game drives in Maasai Mara & Amboseli. Needless to say, we utilized the time effectively and ticked off some of the best things to do in Nairobi. 🦒

“The mountains were so wild and so stark and so “The mountains were so wild and so stark and so very beautiful that I wanted to cry. I breathed in another wonderful moment to keep safe in my heart.” - Jane Wilson-Howarth.❤️ Our first journey to Spiti Valley was in October 2017 and we were completely mesmerized by the beauty of nature, unfolding itself in this part of the Himalayan Region. Ever since then, we had thought of taking a trip to the valley during winter, when everything turns white – but it took us 3 years to finally tick it off our wishlist. During our week-long journey, we crossed some popular hill stations like Shimla & Sarahan, traversed across the treacherous roads with snow-clad mountains soaring high around us and crystal clear rivers accompanying throughout. We stopped at places – sometimes, to click photographs of icicles hanging from rocks and at times, to just stretch our legs and walk around the snowfields, feeling the chills in the air.❄️🏔️ Thanks to @sambitdc for this wonderful photo 📸❤️

When we finally reached our campsite in Dzukou Val When we finally reached our campsite in Dzukou Valley, we were spellbound to see nature's colors, unfolding right in front of our eyes! Though we were tired & exhausted, our excitement was at its peak and our hearts filled with joy, to be amidst this wonderland. It felt like someone has cast a spell and time has paused...
There are several folklores about how this valley derived its name – Dzukou. According to some, the word ‘Dzüko’ was originally derived from the Viswema dialect and it means ‘soulless & dull’. People believe that ages ago, when their ancestors were looking for a place to settle down and harvest crops, they reached this valley and figured out that in spite of being breathtakingly beautiful, the adverse climate and unfavorable terrain would never support cultivation – thus, it was named so. However, a more popular belief is that Dzüko derives its meaning from the Angami word, which translates to ‘cold water’, referring to the ice-cold stream that flows through the valley.
No matter how it got its name and whatever myths are attached to it, one who has been here, at least for once, can never forget this valley, with its rugged beauty of an exhilarating green carpet & the mysticism that lingers in the air.

The Naga Heritage Village in Kisama sets up 16 makeshift morungs, for the travelers to sneak in, during the Hornbill Festival. The makeshift morungs resembling bamboo huts have a fire raging outside to combat the cold weather in the month of December and people of all ages were found sitting around it, sharing rice beer and some delicious smoked pork. During our journey, we would often hop from one morung to another, to observe the different traditions of the tribes (as well as to click some photographs!).

The Great Indian Hornbill is a revered bird across The Great Indian Hornbill is a revered bird across all tribes of Nagaland, featuring widely in their songs and legends. Needless to say, that’s where the Hornbill Festival derives its name from!
Known as the ‘Festival of Festivals’, the Hornbill Festival is organized by the Government of Nagaland to encourage inter-tribal interaction and to promote the cultural heritage of the state. This incredible annual jamboree takes place from December 1 to 10, every year, at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, which is about 12 km from Kohima. All the tribes of Nagaland take part in this festival and the main aim is to revive and protect the rich culture of Nagaland and display its extravaganza and traditions. In 2019, we had a chance to be a part of this incredible festival in Nagaland, and you can know more about it from our blog!

Famous for its ancient temples that depict some of the finest art in the world, Khajuraho mostly gained fame for erotic sculptures. But when we were there, we realised that behind the erotic sculptures, which are just 10% of the overall carvings in the temples, lies deeper tales of history!

About Us 😊

about us

A few years back, we met while on our way to Goecha La - a high altitude Himalayan trek in Sikkim, India. Little did we know that life would become an exhilarating journey from then onwards. In the last couple of years, we have traveled to a lot of places (in India and abroad) and gone back to the mountains, again and again, sharing a common love for the quaint Himalayan towns and Lemon-Honey-Ginger tea!

No, we didn’t really quit our jobs to travel. In fact, we are on a quest of learning how to balance our regular work schedules and our passion for traveling. We hop from one place to another, seeking new adventures, meeting new people, and fueling our ‘wanderlust’. You’ll mostly find us sitting at mountainside cafes on weekends, binging on momos and Maggi but occasionally, we love to get drunk on beaches as well!

As one of us has the zeal to write and the other can’t just let go of the lens, we thought to compile our backpacking stories and unwind the tales for all other enthusiastic travelers like you.
